Dont know who this might be useful to, but here is a little tip. My web page, where I post my newsletter articles and briefing slides was filling up. Mostly due to one Powerpoint slide show that had several animated gifs, and several large images. Powerpoint does not have a PDF export, but Open Office does. So, I opened it in OO Impress, and exported it to PDF.

Impress asked me how I wanted to set compression on the JPEGs, I set to about 50%, then it wanted to know how many DPI for the images, default was 300, I changed to 150. Result, a 5MB file became a 555KB file--a 90% reduction. Of course, it does not have the animations, either the GIFs, or the Slide/text transitions, but it is mostly for the readers to print-out the slides anyway.

So, I saved 4.5MB, and have space on my webpage again. And this way, no one can steal my magnificently artistic (and distracting) little dancing doodads.
