NEW PASSWORD-SWIPING VIRUS IS SPREADING ON FACEBOOK
Over 800,000 people have already been affected by the virus, which looks like a video sent by a friend on Facebook’s Messenger-app. The message appears as a message directed to you only. Once the message is accessed, the individual is routed to a website that instructs you to download a plug-in to your browser to watch a video.
The download activates a MALWARE which allows the subject(s) access to your user PASSWORD, often for e-mail as well as Facebook and Twitter. This gives the attacker the ability to pretend to be their victim, potentially wringing more personal information out of their accounts. The virus spreads through the infected accounts, where the attackers have access to reach out to other victims, spreading the video.
For avoiding Facebook and other social media scams CID suggest you be cautious when receiving links through email or any social media. As malware attackers continue to innovate ways to get at your personal information, it’s important to assume that anything sent to you may be spam. Look for signs that an email or Facebook message is actually addressed to you. For instance, if you got this newest virus sent to you, it wouldn’t be a personalized message, but just a link from your friend. Do your friends often send you links without any comments? If so, tell them next time to put a little personal remark next to the link so you know it’s not a virus.
If you were already affected by this or any other Facebook virus on your computer, smartphone or tablet; you can get rid of this malware by following the steps explained in this link: https://www.wittyfeed.com/story/31127/9-steps-to-remove-the-facebook-virus.

This is a very informative item. I think it ought to be included in the newsletter. What is CID?

Hi Mary
The CID that I extracted the information from is Central Intelligence Division. There are other meanings for CID also. Thought you would like to know.
